Rachel Stemach

Owner + Architect

Rachel has cultivated a passion for drawing and design since her formative years at Bend Senior High School and Central Oregon Community College. After obtaining her Bachelor of Architecture degree at the University of Idaho, she ventured to New England, and gained extensive architectural experience on complex projects ranging from regional hospitals, correctional facilities, middle and high schools and adaptive reuse of historic buildings.

Upon returning to Bend, Rachel contributed her architectural knowledge on urban infill multi-story buildings, elementary and post-secondary education facilities, senior living facilities, as well as smaller but highly-technical commercial tenant improvements and health care clinics. She is the architect of record on a multi-family housing project and dozens of restaurants, office, medical and retail tenant improvements. In 2011, Rachel and her husband Stacey participated in the Living Cities Design Challenge, which has rekindled her passion for urban design.

In addition to being a co-owner of Stemach Design & Architecture, Rachel is an ex-officio member of the Deschutes County Historic Landmarks Commission, an Ambassador for the International Living Futures Institute (ILFI), part of the Cascadia Green Building Council, and is a member of Bend’s Sustainable Neighborhoods Initiative. She prides herself on technical proficiency, thoroughness, attention to detail, and historical correctness.

When Rachel isn’t practicing architecture, you can find her spending time with her husband enjoying Central and Eastern Oregon, or researching historic sites throughout the high desert.
